GRAIL twin spacecrafts' supervised impact on the Moon
On this day, in 2012, the twin lunar-orbiting GRAIL spacecrafts collided with the Moon. The Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) was a NASA lunar science mission to learn more about the Moon's internal structure and composition mapping its gravitational field. Both spacecrafts impacted an unnamed lunar mountain at 1.68 kilometres per second.
