Aitken, the astronomer responsible for a double star catalogue, is born
On this day, in 1864, Robert Grant Aitken was born. Aitken was an American astronomer working at the Lick Observatory in California who specialized in the study of double stars, their positions and orbits. His work resulted in the publication of the New General Catalogue of Double Stars Within 120° of the North Pole, in 1932.

"The Starry Night" is an oil on canvas painting from the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. Painted in 1889, it depicts an imagined village and the sky as the artist saw it from his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise.
