The construction of the International Space Station starts
On this day, in 1998, Space Shuttle Endeavour was launched on its 13th flight. The mission involved attaching in orbit the first two modules of the International Space Station (ISS): the Russian "Zarya" Control Module, previously sent to orbit by a Russian rocket, and the American "Unity Node". Continuously occupied since November 2000, the ISS continues orbiting the Earth about every 90 minutes.

"2001: A Space Odissey", often regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, is a 1968 epic science fiction film. The main section of the film follows a voyage to Jupiter on a spacecraft controlled by a sentient computer, HAL 9000. It deals with themes such as existentialism, human evolution, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life.
