Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is born
On this day, in 1546, Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe was born (in Scania, which today is part of Sweden). He is known for his observations of the movements of the planets. Brahe’s data was fundamental for Johannes Kepler to infer the laws of planetary motion. The two astronomers worked together in Prague.

This statue, made in 1983 by the Czech sculptor Josef Vajce and located in Prague, in the Czech Republic, celebrates two famous astronomers who spent a significant part of their lives in Prague. In spite of their opposite personalities, Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler skill sets proved complementary and led to important contributions to modern astronomy.
